Corporeal Ubiquity

This project is made up of two paintings - Omnipresent and Akshata & Saundarya. Omnipresent is based on the stories of the beginning of the universe in Hindu mythology and recreates the scene of the birth of the main three male gods. The lotus is the representation of “Shakti” or Energy which is how the goddess existed before having a physical form. The lotus is also a symbol of birth. The entire painting was done only with body, which involved dancing on the canvas and smearing the paint with hands. While, Akshata & Saundarya questions the labels around women. This piece uses the stories and the image of the goddess Kali from Hindu mythology as an image of female power and sexuality, and the ritualistic dance, Theyyam which is performed mainly by men in Kerala, as the image through which the goddess id depicted. The painting is done the colours associated with Kali and the process also involved dancing on the canvas.
